Even a healthy pregnancy causes major changes in maternal anatomy, physiology, and metabolism.
This can include changes in the oral cavity and increased susceptibility to oral infection.
Pregnancy gingivitis usually appears in the first trimester of pregnancy. It's an exaggerated gingival inflammatory reaction to local irritants.
Timing of treatment: Scaling and polishing, root planing of the teeth may be performed at any time as required to maintain oral health however routine general dentistry should usually only be done in second and third trimester of pregnancy.
Please stay tuned for more information on radiation and medication use during pregnancy.
