Xylitol can be toxic to dogs so keep your chewing gum away from your pet.
When starting to chew xylitol, meeting the recommendations of 5 to 10 grams per day should be done gradually over a period of several weeks, to allow gastrointestinal system time to adjust.
Since it can cause diarrhea and intestinal gas, people with inflammatory bowel diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome or Crohn's disease, should avoid xylitol.
